Blue
You are the color of Mom singing me to sleep
Of Dad holding me tight to his chest
Of comfort, safety, and Love
When I think of you,
I give thanks for days long gone.
Sky Blue I know you, rampant imagination
You are the color of lying in the grass
Of playing in the back yard
Of forts, tag, and budding friendships
When I think of you,
I give thanks for simpler times.
Ink Blue I know you, expansion of the mind
You are the color of school
Of learning to spell and Algebra
Of fermented friendships, intelligence, and lifelong memories
When I think of you,
I give thanks for my teachers.
Navy Blue I know you, careers and daily grind
You are the color of the business suit
Of the overalls on the person who changes the oil
Of making money, climbing ladders, and lack of ethics
When I think of you,
I give thanks for weekends
Something Blue I know you, all nervousness
You are the color of wedding bells
Of knowing you found the One
Of unrequited Love, those special kisses, and hugs when you need one
When I think of you,
I give thanks for courage enough to say "Hi" for the first time.
Baby Blue we meet again, protectiveness and Love
You are the color of me holding her tight to my chest
Of helping her build forts and teaching her math
Of caring, scaring boyfriends, and finally letting go
When I think of you,
My heart swells with pride and joy.
Be careful out there in the world, sweety
And know that I will always Love you.
