Christmas 2009

Christmas 2009

Dear family here we are
And it's Christmas time again,
So many things have changed this year
I don't know where to begin.

We saw the face of a little girl
On TV everyday,
Who died by the hands of her mother
So she could go and play.

We saw a mega-star die
Who once moon walked across the stage,
But was so sad and full of hate
Because the color upon his face.

So many more famous ones
Have now had to leave,
You cannot imagine all their wealth
But, OH did they Believe?

I know one life is no better
Than anyone else on Earth,
For what do we measure a person by
Their soul or by their worth?

For this Christmas we have lost
Our most precious and loving Mother,
But she will live on
In me, my sisters and brothers.

Oh she never had a fancy home
And she had to work hard everyday,
She loves us unconditionally
And never asked to be repaid.

She didn't leave us many riches
Not one gold or silver mine,
But I'm so glad I have the hands
My Mama has left behind.

So lets all just honor our Mommy
For she has paved the way,
Let's all try to do much better
And meet her again one day.

You know all too well
She will be waiting by the door,
She will say, "where have you been?"
Like she always did before.

So you see Mommy will never
Really ever be gone,
For we are the ones out traveling
And Mommy's waiting for us at home.

Written for my Mother Pauline Slone Huff who passed away on November 05, 2009.  She was our everything.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
