    Poem Commentary

    (c) Jade Sophia 2009

    Dark Angel

Do you remember me, my love?
It's been awhile since we last spoke
I was gone for quite some time, but now
From the dreams of Light I have awoke

Though my pleas were silenced for awhile
They were still running through me
Though it may not have been spoken aloud--
It's still you I longed to see

The Light that shone around me
    Drove the shadows away
And for that I am truely sorry
For you had no place to play

Please don't forsake me now, my love
In your arms I still long to melt
The yearning I have to leave this world
When the kiss of Death is dealt

Come to me once again, my love
My dark angel of the Night
I beg your forgiveness, for I gave in
To the temptation of the Light

Open your arms again to me
    Please don't turn away
I promise to love only you
I vow to never again stray

Here I am, on my knees
Begging you to set me free
    Hand-in-hand we can fade away
    Only you, Death...and me

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
