    Poem Commentary

I guess that being honest is the only real way that you can truly heal, and I thought, "hum, what other place than this to start healing" I guess you could say this is one of my more simple works. I was intimate with a guy who made me believe that he really cared about me, and as cliche as this situation sounds, it really cut me, deep. But even though he tried to hurt me, I learned a valuable lesson, one that I will take with me until this journey called life draws to an apace. You can't heal hurt with someone who is hurt.

    Diamond in the Rough

He used me up, than threw me away.
I took a sip from the devil's cup, after being led
    astray.
I was parched for a drink that would never cure my
    thirst.
I was a dirty rag, only to clean him up, then tossed in the dirt.
I tried to ease my pain, with someone who was
    hurt.
I was a Ruby, captive from my treasure chest because I did not know my
    worth.
Only when I saw myself come undone, did he become
    liquid clear.
I would ruin my soul for soft lies to hear.
Its ironic though that it wasn't until after the motor sped away, that I learned
that I had been taken for a
    ride.
I offered him all of me and he abused what was
    inside.
I was his mistress, and didn't even know he called me
    Jezebel.
But I cant blame him, I was a willing accomplice in this story I
    tell.
Its funny how you never know you're being taken advantage of until
    you are just about to
    disappear.
So I think Ill imitate life and drink from a
    crystal chandelier.
Ill polish my heart in a diamond and resemble
    Evelyn clear.
But this time around I wont mistake the flaws for real
    shine.
I will dive into the rough and claim the treasure that's
    mine.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
