    Flightlessly Flying

    Don't you just wish that we could fly?
    With you I would run, for you I would die.
    My only wish is that you felt the same way as I.
    There's someone else, I'm not gonna lie.

    Suddenly my eyes open,
    I see your face, soft and broken.
    Every time I see you, my heart breaks a little.
    It hurts to know you know the truth.
    I like him, but I love you.

    So why can't we fly away together;
    Die out together?
    If you want to leave then just go
    I just really hope we're not through.
    Because I'm not done;
    Not finished with you.

    Don't say you knew this would end.
    It doesn't have to, not now, not ever.
    I love you, is that enough?
    I know you love me, so what's the problem?

    Forget him, he's nothing.
    But we could be something.
    Don't wait, we'll just fly.
    Because with you I would run, for you I would die.

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
