Our society

the race card still plays
though the game is outdated
as blissful as ignorance is
equally tragic it remains
health care tycoons still deny kids
all you can eat buffets waste
while spitting in the face of starving babies
still giving foreign aid
while banks throw our citizens in the street
the dirty street!
grungy and smelly
because of a one hour paid lunch;
in an eight hour shift
taxes don't get paid for donations
just as long as god is your basis
tell it to the child running fingers through her hair
oh wait the chemo's toll has taken it from her....

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
