Country Cure
Country Cure
After two long years of fightin in a hot dessert war
He made it home in one piece – but his mind needed a cure.
When he left home we was just nine-teen – an innocent kid
The boy returned a bitter man –angry from things he saw and did.
Thinking the cure would be in his big city partying ways
He spent his nights out drinkin – druggin – life in a haze.
His body got sick and he realized this life offered no cure
So he packed up and left –to wander the world- home soil no more.
From the deepest valleys and tallest peaks he searched for his heart
On every continent he tried to forget and make a new start.
But wherever he went that war stalked him like a beast
Back to the states he stumbled - one more try –at the very least.
In a rented camper he traveled all the back roads - makin the rounds
And began to find comfort in the kindness of folks in these small country towns.
All these simple places where he thought life would be such a bore
Now – were offering him peace and love – a warm hearted –country cure
With his travelin and runnin winding down his heart opened and started to mend -
then a good country woman graced his life and finally his war came to an end.
His mistrust in people and for all of man kind – had left him for sure -
and the only medicine needed came from a good country cure.

Re: Country Cure
I like what you've got in this write: it's casual and vivid at the same time

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
