STOP THE UNKNOWN RATE RIPPER

IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF TO HAVE A POEM THAT HAS HELD A 1O FOR DAYS UNTIL ITS ABOUT TO RUN OUT OF TIME AND THE RATE RIPPED SCORES IT REALLY LOW. tHE SITE SHOULD REQUIRE A COMMENT TO RATE AND SHOW THE RATING IN THE COMMENT.

I've had that happen to me, and have seen it happen to several other people...looks like we have a no talent jerk out there with some jealousy issues...but the ptb say they are working on something to take care of that little problem; Hopefully it won't be much longer.

Yes, that's happened a few times to me. It happened with The Master's Cat. By the way, I'm going to the hospital for a few days, so please don't be alarmed if I don't respond to my emails right away. Also, my poems will be posted on my new profile, studly1111. I apologize for the confusion.

This is bad, I don't like hearing things like this..
This happend to a friend of mine, and to a few of my poems.
I'm sorry to hear of this.
Well, don't loose faith in the site, and your fellow poets, and friends.
There are mature people here, instead of creeps, envyists, cowards, and wanna bees.
I have a friend here that is so hurt that will not post another good poem..
But to let you all know I do enjoy being here sharing these problems with you.

Last night all my rates were a 10 or a9 and have been for a week. then this morning I got on to write some more and the slasher came and knocked all poetry down to 6 to a 1.
I want to know why is it we all work so hard to make our poems good and so others can enjoy
reading them. Then some one comes in and acts like a child and brings them down looking like you are a child. They leave no comment so you know who it is. That has to be a very low person to do this to so many people. I am displeased with this and it is not right to happen to any of us. something needs to be done... lostbaby

Obviously, this "person" is a no talent hack.......who lashes out due to his/her own inabilities and insecurities. I wouldn't let this little person trouble you. Personally, I began writing here so that I would stop losing my poems ( I'm really bad at keeping track of all those pieces of paper)........it doesn't matter to me what my rating is......and I enjoy reading everyone else's work.

Consider...what is a poem? Is it not a form of art, and as such an individual expression? If so, who is to judge the "rating" of another's poem? By rating, we say it is better which is another way to assign value. I have had several very highly rated poems. But does that mean they have more "value" than another's? Certainly not. I write because it is in me to write. I write with one voice because that is my voice (though I might have found another with my latest poem, lol). What I write is of no greater value than my eldest son's poem which i posted here as well. Nor are they of any greater value than another other piece of expression on this site. We see a high number and we are elated because we feel validation, which is only natural. When we see a low number, we feel hollow, empty, as if our work is somehow lessened. For all of us, our work is every bit as valid as the next. Our voice, individual as it is, is every bit as valuable than the next. What hurts me most about the "rate ripper" (lol) is that he or she is causing us to feel somehow less. Remember one thing, though when someone rates one of our poems, they simply state how much they "liked" it, which by nature is a subjective evaluation based on a subjective human. What they say about themselves speaks volumes. So go ahead Rate Ripper, rip all my poems with your low ratings. I stand in defiance to you and welcome your whimpering. I welcome the fact you haven't won yet and are doing your very best to ensure you do. I expect my poems to be tanked. "Go ahead punk. Make my day" Because each time you ruin someone's rating, you are ruining their heart. As for me, you may touch my rating, but you can't touch my will. I stand before you as your Cause....how does it feel to be The Effect? Oh, and when you laugh because my poems are rated low, I'm laughing even louder .

We need a rule that U can't rate unless U leave a comment.
I don't really care bout the ratings though, jus the comments.

WOW...I REALLY STARTED SOMETHING. LOL AND I DO AGREE WITH JADDENBLADE IT IS NOT A REFLECTION ON ME OR THE POEM....AND A RATING IS JUST A NUMBER AND BIG DEAL....ITS JUST FRUSTRATING TO NOT KNOW WHO THEY ARE OR WHAT THEY DIDN'T LIKE. YA KNOW...EVEN IF SOMEONE HATES THE POEM THATS COOL BECAUSE IT DID ITS JOB IT GOT A REACTION...SO BAD COMMENTS ARE OK WITH ME.....AND THE RATING IS NOT IMPORTANT ITS THE PRICIPLE I GUESS AND I GUESS THATS MY ISSUE TO DEAL WITH....MAYBE I'LL TRY TO WRITE ABOUT IT....GETTING STUCK ON PRINCIPLE THAT IS BECAUSE I DO THAT MORE THAN I'D LIKE TO. I have hunted for the Rate Ripper since the 10th April of of 2009,
This may not be the same one, but the id, is a rate ripper,
so my suggestion is add this id (LouisIII) to your ignore list.
I have been reading poems here, all that came from this id is negativity,
and lowerd scores.
I will not argue here on this post.
So no reply will be, I 'am will be protecting the poets.

Perhaps the easiest and most fair way to handle those individuals that intentionally rate other poets' poems low is to get rid of the number rating system and instead
allow the readers to rate how good a poem is by the number of pleasant comments that are posted in reply to having read a poem.By doing this it eliminates any chance for petty jealousy since as poets we should all be encouraging each other on this website.There are so many wonderfully talented poets on this website,many who are more skilled at their art then I am. I feel admiration and great respect for them.By associating with them I think that I can refine my talent more and learn a lot.

Jadenblade you have said it here very well. I hope the RIPPER will be detected and be banned from our OP site, till he/she regains good sense.. Thanks to Jadedjezzabel for moooting our objection to this obnoxious fellow, The Ripper smells! Ugh!

I agree with Jaddenblade and CousinOren.We all write poetry to share the passionate thoughts and feelings coming from deep within our souls.While it is nice to receive positive feedback on our poems;the rating that we receive on a poem in no way are an indication of whether the poem is good or bad.Poetry is a beautiful form of art in which artistic souls can share their life experiences.As such everyone perceives things in a different way and some people perhaps out of jealousy or other negative emotions feel the need to try to bring other people down.If we let them upset us;then they win some kind of a twisted victory.whoever is intentionally rating pems very low is obviously a very unhappy person and doesn't leave a comment on any poems so no one can respond back to them.I feel sorry for them that they do not get what poetry sites like this are really about. O.P. is about sharing your poems with others in the hope that perhaps something that you write will touch someone else's heart in a positive way and perhaps offer words of comfort and hope to someone who needs them.There is enough negative stuff in this word as it is.As poets we should try to offer the world a better way of viewing life,of building up and encouraging one another.To the rate ripper I simply say: I feel sorry for you that you are so unhappy and miserable in your life that you feel the need to try to bring others down.I pray that God will change your heart and mind and help you to see that the only one really being hurt by your actions is yourself.You cheat yourself out of the wonderful experience of connecting with other poetic souls and developing great friendships.Love and light to everyone.

To make it simple, OP should just eliminate the rating option. I noticed
an unexpected low rating on one of my poems which brought the rating
from 10 down to 6.5............I wish I knew why someone would bother
leaving a rating at all, if they didn't like the poem.....makes no sense. In
my thinking, it is a tool for some jealous poet to try, in this childish manner,
to make another poet feel dejected.
I suggested to OP that there should be a button for "I like this poem" and
one for "I didn't like this poem" instead of the unreliable rating system...

I hate the site ratings, but mainly when it comes to contests. Someone can write a perfect piece with no flaws but it only takes one rating less than a ten to take it out of contest. Those who are in favor of being rated a nine have won plenty of contests - from someone who has never won one - it sucks.

I have only been rated extremely low once, on "Bible Story" someone rated it less than a five. That is a poem that was rewritten probably a 100 times before it was posted. Ofcourse when someone is being so stupid, you are forced to drop all comments and repost your work - or look at some rediculas rating that doesn't match the work...
