About Daily Poetry Topics

Looking for some daily inspiration? Maybe looking for a new topic to write on? We've created this forum to help you expand your mind with a daily topic to challenge you. Each day we will post a new topic for you to write about. Also-members can freely post their own topic challenges. Pictures are also welcome.

Guidelines & Suggestions:

1. Please keep alternative style content to a low roar. While we're not completely ruling it out for this forum, we do ask that you not get to offensive or out of line.

2. Be creative. Try and avoid topics that have been used recently or a lot in general. Remember, you can post a picture, a word, a topic, or go as far as writing a small paragraph or story/scenario.

3. Try not to be critical. I'm sure most will welcome constructive input into their poems, but please avoid using this forum as a place to be overly critical. You can always private message the writer.

4. Have fun! Remember, there are no limits or boundaries to this.

5. If you choose to post your response as a poem in your profile, be sure to link it here so we can all read.

Re: About Daily Poetry Topics

Okay, people, there doesn't seem to be much action here, so HERE'S AN EASY CHALLENGE: Write about a DEATH: Here's mine:

CARRION CROW

I’ve reached another crossroad,
A branch point in my life.
Retirement seems a planned affair
Not like that branch back down the road
That handed me my lovely wife.

I’ll manage this one with a flair
That bears a happy mother load
Infecting other lives.
To help us all move down the road
Toward that “Great Divide”.

Right now I’m having second thoughts
And feeling lots of strife
Knowing that my “doctor mode”
Has taken way too much of life.

And no one shares, or even cares
That carrion crows pick at my back.
Admire, don’t judge the carrion crow
Her beauty shines in every life.

Kali’s midnight colors show
Right through the plumage on her back.
She walks with pride and then begins
So lovingly to clean the scene.
With great aplomb
She struts her stuff
Resplendently in black.

Re: About Daily Poetry Topics

Here's an idea for a poem:

If God gave you the opportunity to look him in the eye and talk to him for one day without dying, what would you talk to him about?

Re: About Daily Poetry Topics

here's another idea for a topic:

If you could walk around under water, like at the bottom of a lake or an ocean, what would that be like?

Re: About Daily Poetry Topics

If you were a soldier, say, in Iraq, and you came face to face with an enemy soldier who looked like he did not want to kill you, who was just a young boy who was forced to fight, but you knew he was going to shoot you if you didn't kill him first, what would that be like?

Re: About Daily Poetry Topics

Ubiquity (ability), the ability to be present in every place

I chose to take this definition to a political place...that of big brother censorship. what is your opinion of this topic?

Ubiquity indeed, more food for thought
How threatend freedoms seem each rebel caught
Who then to speak for freedom's trampled past
If corner cranny nook keen gaze is cast
Consequence too oft misunderstood
We forge ahead convinced it's for own good
Long past seems chance to waylay halt go back
Freedoms gone all lost to notice lack
One voice alone too easy muzzle mute
While many raised prove harder to refute
As voice of discontent has ever raised
Awareness action change when passions blazed
As underground before and always will
Lend hand expand survive all freedoms still
Ubiquity alone will never heel
When voice is joined by voice cannot conceal

Where stepping back seems giving up or in
Is really plan attack best way to win

Re: About Daily Poetry Topics

Thought's of days gone by run through my mind,
like flashbacks from a different place and time.
My head feels heavy anchored and weighed down,
from all of the memories it has been carrying around.
My heart feels like it is about to burst,
my mouth feels dry for water I thirst.
I can't seem to shake this forbidding feeling of dread,
my belly is growling begging to be fed.
What is this feeling that has come over me,
my eyes are wide open, but still I cannot see.
The clouds that once were white have turned dark around me,
The sun that once was bright no longer seems to be.
This life that was once mine seems to be slipping away,
parts of me continue to disappear with each passing day.
Until finally my body can take no more,
And I'm called home to that celestial shore.

bless you father
for sustanance to do as you will .
forgive my short commings
help me to be closer to you
let your holy spirit fill me
let no hunger,or thirst
even for a moment reside
free my heart and mind
let me be with you all the seconds of time
bodily and mind.

RE: About Daily Poetry Topics. GUSTY , a " a freedom type" poet???

T CERTAIN TIMES IN MAN'S LIFE, IT'S WORTH ISOLATING ONESELF BY EVADING THE CITY'S DIN; TAKING A BENCH AS SEAT, QUIETLY IN THE ARMS OF NATURE (IN A GARDEN), AND WRITING A FEW LINES OF WISE LESSONS OF LIFE! THIS WAS WHAT I DID! I'LL BE GLAD TO SHARE THE RESULT THEREOF WITH ALL AND SUNDRY!!!
ONE DOZEN 'NOTIONS' WITH ALL TO SHARE!

I° "The words we shout out into an open cave are the words that echo
back to us".

II° "The wise person's world is not bought with a cigarette and a lighter"

III° "Fools have never been that foolish to use bad language to describe
their Motherland!"

IV° "In reality, an easy job has never existed simply because The Heavenly
Father never dreamt of creating one!"

V° "Who can ever help anyone if they themselves need help badly?"

VI° "Hunger eats any food available!"

VII° "We can't clean a place without leaving a trace!"

VIII° "One of the best friends a scholar has ever had is a good book, not a
computer of high performance!"

IX° "If I were a bird, one of those places I won't fly to would be where
gossipers are at work!"

X° "No one is too wise to live in accordance with the norms of everyday
life".

XI° "It's of little use trying to 'direct' all blind people; some perform better
with 'one' cane, than we do with 'two' eyes!"

XII° "Where Love fails, Tolerance may succeed!"

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

This is a perfecly composed poem which reminds me very much of the Engish poet, Oliver Goldsmith who was renowned for his perfectly crafted rhyming couplets. I detect a likeness of theme and rhythm, as well..

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
