Four o’clock watch

Poem Commentary

written as a deckhand sailing in the Gulf of Mexico on a 130 ft. wooden schooner.

Four o’clock watch

The Ship is not silent, but rather it is quiet enough to hear her sing

She moans and sighs her whispered confessions carried by Zephyrs

Into the arms of the Sea

As I sit eavesdropping on the bow

Vicariously copulating with titans

Feeling her dip dramatically low

And rise again in the rhythmic way of her love’s expression,

Sails full of windy secrets,

Carefully carried in canvas

And in her song I hear the name

Of all the Never, Never Neptune lovers I have ever known.

Great poem. I had to fight the urge to close my eyes midway through reading as I felt the urge to lean back and imagine myself on the sea. Your words took me to another place for a moment. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your works.

Wonderfully poetic descripton of being on the sea in a sailing vessel. 'Not silent but quite enough to her her sing'..even in a silent sea the wind passing through the lines pushing the sails and flowing over the bow plays beautiful music..each of your lines a tresure for the mind and the imagination..

thanks Lena... it is wonderful and lonely... the only thing I can sort of equate it to, is being in the middle of a desert chained to a group of other people.

Shal I was drawn into that ship of yours and tried to listen to the confessions. Wonderful words. Very happy to note that you write good poems.

You have such beautiful word play. You are an humbling gift...I love the way I can almost hear the ocean in my heart with this piece... read the next few words slowly and very carefully...NEVER STOP WRITING, IT WOULD BE A DISSERVICE TO THIS WORLD!

Likewise. I can't tell you how happy I was to run across your poetry. You crazy ghost woman. I love your stuff... you hear that everyone -I LOVE HER STUFF!

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
