    fragile heart

    The sidewalk is cracked
    like fractured bones
    carrying a heart
    so fragile
    that you fear
    that it would shatter.
The sky is a dull gray
    with rain overhead
    in a gloom
    that describes
    perfectly
    your mood.
    You only take a step
    one at a time
    for fear
    that you would
    fall
    and no one
    would catch you.
    You stare forward
    for fear
    that what is beside you
    is the most
    unpleasant
    atrocious
    things of life.
    There is black
    but is there white
    isn't there
    you ask
    though there
    is no one
    to answer.
    But you
    keep walking
    cradling your fragile heart
    in your
    small hands
    afraid to
    give it away.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
