    Growing Pains

Do as I say, not as I do
    Immortal words of wisdom.
Okay for me, but not for you.
    Are they immune
    Will I eventually turn into
the empty, self-absorbed shell of a person?
    Is it inevitable?

They are blind and cold to
    the pain they inflict.
    Age doesn't bring wisdom
    but wipes way all hope
and hate crushes the original truth.
    Greed clouds their judgement
    Whereas in youth,
Discussion are held from the heart.

How dare they try to mold me?
    To make me?

    Spring 1987

(note: I no longer feel this way about my parents - truly, with age does come wisdom and anger fades)

i like this one i can sort of relate

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
