HITHER I GO

Yonside, the tallest mountain peak
Caught up a downfall of white;
Powdered its highest points unique,
Dropped crystals lightest of light.
Beauty moved my love to speak—

Of sunbeams dancing off one curl
That fell and bounced toward my eye;
Smitten he dreamed of his young girl—
Like wind in the trees he’d sigh,
His heart thumped, his mind took a whirl.

Locked in an aura of romance,
A circle of light came down;
Awakened from his fragile trance,
He kneeled—slowly touched the ground
Covering his loved one—by chance.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
