I May Be Your Hero

Poem Commentary

This was written for my fiance

I May Be Your Hero

I may be your hero
But you are the one fighting

You say "Keep your chin up, I'm fighting for you"
I keep it up as best I can
As that time inches closer and closer
The wieght gets heavier and heavier

I know it is what you have been dreaming of
Since you were able to walk
I know you also have no choice now
Your life belongs to them

So your angel,
Your hero
Will be right here
Waiting
For you

I've waited my entire life for you
I can survive six or more months
While you are away...
I will keep busy
But you will always be on my mind

My love,
My demoness,
My beautiful
Exotic
Fighter

I shall be right here waiting
Holding my chin up
Until the wieght is to heavy
But waiting, none the less

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
