If I Could
If I could love wholeheartedly
Even knowing my world could shatter
I'd take a deep shallow breath
And walk quickly over to my heart
If I could long for another half
Even knowing they might split
I'd close my eyes tightly
And long for something truly
If I could honestly nurture love
Even knowing it won't be returned
I'd clench my teeth and clasp my hands
And reach out to hold on to that desire
If I could love wholeheartedly
Even knowing my world could shatter
While fearing, I'd put down my shield
And finally tell you, "I love you."
Even knowing my world could shatter
I'd take a deep shallow breath
And walk quickly over to my heart
If I could long for another half
Even knowing they might split
I'd close my eyes tightly
And long for something truly
If I could honestly nurture love
Even knowing it won't be returned
I'd clench my teeth and clasp my hands
And reach out to hold on to that desire
If I could love wholeheartedly
Even knowing my world could shatter
While fearing, I'd put down my shield
And finally tell you, "I love you."
