Longing for Yesterday

Longing for Yesterday

A lifetime completed way too fast,
left sorting through memories of the past,
if only we had known which moments would be the last.

If only more would have been said,
and in a more loving way instead,
if only we had known the road that lay ahead.

A loved friend was taken away,
so many wishing you could have stayed,
so many left longing for yesterday.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
