Love Unrequited

Love Unrequited

Shes walking down a winding road

she tries to find the light

and when she thinks shes lost all hope

He comes to be her knight

her heart is wanting, needing him

  aching like a burn

deeper into love she falls

past the point of no return

when she questions how to pay

  he asks for one thing

'in return for all ive done

your heart upon a string'

she takes the knife to her chest

with steady hands, complies

  if anything this shed do

just to light his eyes

  ripping, tearing, bleeding now

pulling at the thread.

  hanging it around his neck

dripping crimson red

'loves the weakest fault' he speaks

'and yours was all in vain'

he leaves her then heart in hand

while the heavens mock her pain

she died that day amidst the rain

but uttered not a sound

  because she knew,

though still she cried

  lost love is never found
