Mom & Dad Never Talked "

Looking out the window,
a blank stare upon my face......
Time moves so very fast,
the world a hopeless place.....

Turning on the flat screen,
no surprise to what I see.....
Topping the nightly news,
Its murder in the first degree.....

He's  just a kid,
 and but now  facing life.....
the story's all the same,
A  family filled with strife.....

For years mom was  abused,
my dad always on crack.....
epidemic sweeping the world,
something they statistically track.....

Its nothing to here a friend,
just took one in the head.....
That's my boy Jimmy,
and that's the life he lead.....

When will the world wake up,
and face the violence that's all around.....
Our babies are being killed,
As nobody makes a sound.....

People Its time to act,
before another  Child dies.....
When talking about the future,
we seem so very wise.....

When its time to talk to children,
and give them good advice.....
That we find so very hard,
and for this they pay the price.....

So tonight when your at home,
and think there's nothing more too do.....
Remember the words you never spoke,
Had that chance of getting through.....

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
