MOON

MOON

ROUND AND GLOWING
VIBRANT, BRIGHT
STANDS THE MOON
IN THE SKY TONIGHT

MY COMPANION
YES, MY FRIEND
ALL MY SECRETS
TO MOON, I LEND

SWELLING ROUNDER
IS IT PRIDE?
FOR THE SECRETS
MOON HOLDS INSIDE?

TIME BRINGS DISTANCE
WAX AND WANE
MOON'S ATTENTION
NOT QUITE THE SAME

FACE IS TURNING
HALF AWAY
I BEG HIM NIGHTLY
OH, PLEASE STAY!

JUST A SLIVER
ALMOST GONE
AGAIN I FIND ME
ALL ALONE

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
