    MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

before I started to write across this sheet of paper
you saw a blank page with lines
I saw lines filled with sentences
most people see something for what it is
I see things for what they could be
    for instance...
    you see clothes
    I see textures
woven into fabric with colors and mixtures
you see a canvas with paint
I see a masterpiece formed from a picture
    you see a car
    I see art on wheels
    go figure
    you see a kitchen table
I see a family holding a great conversation over dinner
you see a country filled with different races
    I see a blender
    mix us all up together
and the world becomes a little bit sweeter.

I like the concept of seeing things for what they could be and not for what they are. Sometimes we have to see the cup as being half full not half empty in order for us to have the strength to persevere through life.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
