My "Dad"
The man I call dad
Raised me, sacrificed for me, gave what he could
And tho I do not have his name
Nor does his blood run in my veins
He didn't give less to me than the others
I thought for years he was a big man
A man above all others
And now after more than 35 years
There are no doubts
In my mind nor in my heart
That he is indeed head and shoulders
Above the rest, he's the best of them all
He taught me to fish, to camp
Rollerskate and water ski
He also taught me to be tough
To work hard and be proud of it
Now I look back
Wishing I had many times
Overlooked his stubborn pride, his short temper, his shortcomings
God knows many days I wish
I had taken the time
To say thanks dad
To let him know how I feel, how I felt
To let him know how very proud I am
To call him dad.
Raised me, sacrificed for me, gave what he could
And tho I do not have his name
Nor does his blood run in my veins
He didn't give less to me than the others
I thought for years he was a big man
A man above all others
And now after more than 35 years
There are no doubts
In my mind nor in my heart
That he is indeed head and shoulders
Above the rest, he's the best of them all
He taught me to fish, to camp
Rollerskate and water ski
He also taught me to be tough
To work hard and be proud of it
Now I look back
Wishing I had many times
Overlooked his stubborn pride, his short temper, his shortcomings
God knows many days I wish
I had taken the time
To say thanks dad
To let him know how I feel, how I felt
To let him know how very proud I am
To call him dad.
