Poem Commentary

This poem was written the day after I lost my daughter, Torsche.

My Shadow

I called you my shadow
in joking fun...
How you followed me around,
not letting me out of sight.
I'd go to the kitchen
with you on my heels.
I'd sit on the couch
and you'd run over,
wanting on my lap, and I'd give you kisses.
I must have worn out the words, "I love you."
How empty I feel now...
for my little shadow is gone.
I wonder if you knew
the depth of my love?
Or how happy you made me...
We must have had our hard days...
funny though, I don't remember them.
I find comfort in knowing
that Jesus has a little shadow now...
her name is Torsche.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
