Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This
I saw you see me from across the room
Gently felt your hands upon my waist,
Opened my eyes and realized
You had never moved into my space.
Hearing Luther croon set the mood
And I immediately thought about taking you to a back room.
Overwhelmed and shocked
You caught my eye and we were locked.
My feet became heavy, my legs got weak
I opened my mouth and couldn't speak.
Initial fear pushed me out the door.
Doubt made me turn the ignition key
Self-loathing forced the pedal to the floor
Because the love, at first, I couldn't see.
Speeding away from my destiny, trying to shake this ache.
Pain from the past slapped me in the face.
The tears began to fall and my heart skipped a beat
The same mistakes, I promised I wouldn't repeat.
Respect myself first and place no man above Thee
Just beginning to realize that I am worthy
The key to my Treasure, I once gave too freely
Never knew I deserve love for just being me.
Decisions made with no consequence in thought
Never asked whose bed next would be his stop
Been through so many Possibles and Maybes
Not one ever wanted to make me their Lady.
But you...
Your magentic smile, I could not have forgot
The intense look in your eyes never left my thoughts
Constant reminders of the possibility of love
That I never sought.
Memories of your face
Crept in and took up space in my dreams
And never left this place
In my heart.
I glimpsed your soul on the day we met,
Immediately you let me in
Conversing for hours like we were old friends
Neither of us knew what was about to begin.
The simplicity of our connection is amazing
Even in the face of doubt
We are never wavering
As a child I thought I would always know
When love came knocking, I'd open the door
Thought I had actually known love before
But meeting you has shaken me to my core.
It feels like I'm done, not searching anymore.
