Poem Commentary

I write this poem to the child of wonder.

ODE TO THE COSMOS

Ode what a wonder is this cosmos,
From the largest star to a blade of grass.
Its absolutivity requires no boast,
For all being falls within its compass.

Although natural laws dictate its temporal orders,
All time beats for eternity in its heart.
Its spatial outreach is without borders.
Heaven, the angelic adobe, be a transcendental part.

Atomistic matter of nature comprises its base.
Organismic flesh of humanity is betwixt the high and low.
Tis a mechanical universe no doubt the case.
Its psychophysical realm come we to intimately know.

If there be, as immaterialists aver, spirituality;
Then holistic Spirit of God be what's beyond the middle ground.
Just no theoretical construct of what transcends materiality,
This heaven, superconscious Spirit be its spiritual crown.

Scientific brains may explain its facts by empirical theories,
And theologic souls may see in it the basis for sacred religion.
Tis where philosophic minds may ponder its conceptual and abstract keys,
But for the poet, tis the inexhaustible source of creative expression.
