Once upon a time

Once upon a time
Except life is no fairy tale
Cinderella didn't find her prince Little Bo Beeps sheep didn't come home
The bears ate Goldilocks
And Snow White was poisoned and she didn't wake up
William Tell shot his kid straight through the heart
Hansel and Gretel were forever lost in the forest
Fairy tales
Spun to make children feel better at night
Sweet dreams
Except
I don't sleep
And I don't have dreams
And fairy tales and rhymes are lies
There is no happy ever after

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
