Biography

I'm a young refugee boy coming straight from Eastern Africa. I was born in Mareerey, Jilib. In the Lower Juba of Somalia. Flew from my country when i was just three years old to escape the hunger and survive the hardships brought to us by the war. Fled from Somalia by feet covering thousands kilometers to the Kenyan border. Through the hunger, and thirst, to not mention being tired as well at the moment. Feeling deprived and lonely, we started our lives over in a new refugee camp in kenya, almost attached to the border. It was "Hagadera Refugee Camp". I lived almost all of my childhood life in a refugee camp, while waiting for a better luck to get a taste of the better life. through the pain and strife, I made everyday count. Just when me and everybody gave up on hope, the day had came. I moved here to the United States on September, 2004. I was Seventeeen-years-old, almost already late to start High School. I started writing short stories before my teachers learned that I could write poetry. Living life through hardship, gave me the opportunity to be one of the best English Language Learners' (ELL/ESL) poets of my school. Now even though I am not going to school, I continue to write poetry, and I take it seriously. I want to get published in a big book one day and join the best poets of all time.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
