    "Ice In His Heart”

He pulled into the parking deck near the motel downtown
Climbed out of his Plymouth and slowly looked around.
When he saw what he was expecting over his face there was dread
Because he knew very shortly they two would be dead.

He walked around the car to the window rolled down
Reaching into the glove box without making a sound
took out the pistol it was caliber forty five
Thumbed through the cylinder tears falling from his eyes

Mist confusion and terror he walked into the room
Where they two lay together, like two lovers in June
They didn’t even hear as he walked through the door
Their minds somewhere else, their cloths on the floor

With coldness of mind and ice in his heart
He whispered darling from him never again will you part
He squeezed off two rounds toward the entangled bed
Then left as he came leaving the two of them dead.

Wow, I understand this poem all too well. I never shot the culprits but I experienced the pain at first hand.

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
