Redeemed By Faith

Poem Commentary

Written (1996) as I was struggling to with what I was not sure of when it came to faith. Spiritually, my journey had been a roller coaster because I never did have a good strong upbringing in church. I just kept feeling this pull in my spirit & I would soon learn that it was God himself, drawing me near to him.

Redeemed By Faith

Life for me, well, it was never too rich, never too poor.  I loved my family with all of my heart and more but wait; someone is knocking on my door.

Cloak of midnight black and eyes of crimson red, he invited me to a dinner of temptation, a dinner that I would years later, come to regret.

The next nine years he ruled my soul, as I begged and pleaded with him to have mercy on me and I asked him to please let me go.

I closed my eyes and turned away when he denied my request; I prayed out loud and a light began to pave me a way as my tears fell.

Suddenly, I knew that I had done something right, because my beloved Savior had heard my prayer and He is now at my side.

Jesus took me by the hand as he cast temptation aside.  He forbids Satan to touch me for certain that if he tried, he would surely die.

I fell to my knees and cried tears of relief, realizing that I was never some shepherd’s lost, forgotten or forsaken sheep.

Jesus lifted me up and looked into my eyes and said, “Forget your past my child, all has been forgiven.  You now have a new start”.

I walked home with Jesus by my side and from that day forward, I have been certain that Satan will never again lay claim to my heart, for it is God’s home.
