Slave to the Downtrodden

Slave to the Downtrodden

My problem: Pride

I have No-one to be proud of

There’s nothing of value here

Confidence isn’t something I can just make-up.

But that means you have to work-for-it,

That crucially attractive Confidence

and I don’t believe love is something you should have to EARN!

Love should belong to the champion standing on-top of the mountain,

And also to the loser laying face down in the drain.

It should be felt by the most beautiful angel,

And worn by the most hideous troll.

the poorest slave can afford to give away

as much as the richest king can save.

It isn’t something you can ever lose,

because you can always make plenty more.

I Believe: Love is something we simply must DEMAND!

and if our modest request is refused,

if God denies us what we truly deserve,

then this is not the world to which my soul belongs,

I shall steal my heart back from her to whom I gave it,

and wring-out my love to the crying masses,

to revive who ever needs it most.

I declare myself a slave to the downtrodden and destitute.

If Love judges me unworthy of her touch,

then I will touch the hearts left unrequited,

Let all the emptiness belong to me.

I wrote once that....confidence threatens while cockiness soothes...kind of prophetic in a way....I love how you demand love be worthy to us all....the title is quite brillant....we are all slaves to our emotions....great write....Cher

i like how your expressed your feelings. keep up the good work.

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
