Soul Searching

I woke up with a hole

In my soul

I looked up and saw

My hope all gone

I took a glimpse at the sky

With shimmering star

I wished and I prayed for

You in my life.

Your eyes into mine speaking

With the soul

A gesture, a smile, a rising sun

In your face

All this just for being together

Our souls almost the same.

I woke up with salt and sea

On my pillow

I looked at my side finding

Loneliness, love’s widow.

I took a glimpse at the silence

A shivering feeling.

I wished that last night

Was more than just dreaming…

I bowed my head and prayed

Then lay my head down to

Dream and find you there.

You came from a mist

Like a vision

Offering love through time

And perdition.

You took my hand and sighed…

Swearing you’d stay at my side

A soft tear waved from your eye

Saying you’d prayed for a smile like mine.

And into the mist we went

To become one and the same.

I looked at my heart and saw

A silver light like treasure found

I took a glimpse at my eyes

Who smiled with glowing desire.

But…Oh!...happy design just crushed

Treacherous hours have passed

The sun makes its appearance above

And I wake again

With a hole in my soul…

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
