The Christmas wish.
THE CHRISTMAS WISH
Memories of Christmas trees, of horse drawn sleighs, of holiday cheer.
Of frosty days when puddles freeze of crispy eves and 8 reindeer.
We all recall our Christmas past and of those we all held dear.
Close your eyes and rest your mind because those friends are near.
They gather at this time of year. Like the stars that paint the sky..
Their voices fill the branches full. Their laughter makes me cry.
I think of them and years gone by. And realize what I miss.
Given just one single chance I’D make this Christmas wish.

Ten years old again Id be, bright bows & packages around the tree.
Quietly resting on sister’s knee. With my mother sitting next to me.
Wondering if I’d been bad. Then reaching up and hugging dad.
Family and friends still here. Would be my Christmas wish this year.
I’d wish that I could tell my dad, that I loved him one more time.
And hold my grandpa’s weathered hand his pocket watch would chime.
To see my grandma in her chair, her quilt all pulled up tight.
A smile on her gentle face would be my wish tonight.
I’d wish for snow and mistletoe. For a race car track and a GI Joe.
A real red flyer and a bb gun. A star on the tree just as bright as the sun..
A table of cookies of candy and pies. A stretch and a yawn as I wipe sleep from my eyes.
A hug from mom and a smile from dad. Is the best Christmas wish that I could have had.
And now with all the turkey gone, we’d sit and sing old Christmas songs.
Remember all the holidays. And hold each other tight.
But the most important thing you see. At this blessed time I’d say.
To have my family here with me. . Would be my wish today.
