The Face On The Carton

The Little girl went out to play on a sunny and warm Summer's day,
And she only meant to stay awhile, she didn't mean to wander away.
But before she knew it she had gone too far and couldn't find her way home,
Oh why she thought have I disobeyed and far away did I roam.
It was starting to get a little dark when her mom went to call her inside,
And when the girl didn't answer she wondered where she did hide.
She searched and she searched but still couldn't find her little girl so small,
And finally she knew what she had to do, she had to make that call.
As she dialed the number and heard the hello of the dispatcher on the phone,
She almost couldn't say the words, help my daughter is lost from home.
They came and they searched but to no avail and they didn't know what to do, And as the hours and days passed slowly by their fear grew and grew.
They eventually stopped looking and placed her face on the milk cartons of those who were gone,
Others who were taken or had wandered away, those who had been gone long.
They'll never know that their little girl had died at the hands of another,
Or that the last words their daughter had said was, "I'm sorry forgive me please Mother."
