The Monster Within
It searched for something.What?
It Did Not Know.
It was dark
and It was cold
and It was void
Of All Human Emotion.
As the day wore on
Its hunger grew and grew.
Until at last It knew
What It Had To Do.
It stopped along Its way
to have a few beers
just a few, to relax
and Silence Him
That Might Object
.
Then It went home
to His wife
and His children
Where Its Hunger
Consumed Them.
The next day It was always gone
Never to return We hoped.
But We Were Always Wrong.
She feels cheated out of what
by night should be Hers.
still She hungers for Him
He who cast Her aside
Over and Over Again.
She has His children
one right after the other
six in all, though one
Would Not Breath At All.
He could run around.
while She was trapped at home.
and It wouldn't leave
Her children alone.
so when It was around
She Was Gone.
His children went to sleep
and Its children were born.
Her children struggle to hold on
longing for Her love
But Her Love Is Gone.
It grew weary of Its need
To feed on Her Dreams,
"You went limber-legged for Him!
Well here He is, sick and weak
And Worn to the Knees."
All she can do is moan
"Poor Me! Poor Me!
Cheated out of My Dream
For Him and Me. "
What does She want?
What does She need?
Good Lord!
Tell Me Please!
She wants It to return to Her
What It has Stolen:
Her Perfect Dream for Their Reality
It eventually disappeared
Staying gone for years.
Its prey grown up and out of Its reach
It grew Old and Tired and Weak.
He could not love Its children
She could not love
What reminded Her of Them
His children long for Their love
But are Never Good Enough.
For It had filled Its needs
Consuming Everything.
The Monster We learned
to fear so much
Now Lives Within Us.
