    The Most Wanted

I don't want to hurt you
Not really, but I still do
And you smile so prettily at me
And you try so hard to make me happy
But I seem to be always hurting you
And I don't know how to stop.

    You give me everything
    Buy me diamond rings
I'm engaged to be your wife
I want to spend eternity loving you
    But I keep hurting you
And I can't seem to stop.

When you touch me, my body turns into liquid mercury
I want to hold you and keep you inside
I want to kill you and make you mine
Your everything I never knew I wanted
Why do I keep hurting you?
    Why can't I seem to stop? ! ?

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
