    The Pedestal

    Standing alone looking below,
    so far down,
    so far to go.

what if I tremble, or my limbs shake,
    so far down,
    so far to go.

and should the earth begin to quake,
    so far down,
    so far to go.

and this pedestal begin to break?
    so... so far down,
    so... so far to go.

Will my wings fail me, fluttering too slow?
    so far down,
    so far to go.

If I fall will they understand?
    so far down,
    so far to go.

Will one stand bravely taking my hand?
    so far down
    so far to go.

Will they walk away shaking their head,
    so far down,
    so far to go.

    mumbling words of pity istead?
    so very far down,
    so damned far to go.

    Standing alone looking above,
    so far up,
    so far to go.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
