The Ride
The Ride
A trip to Crawford County is where it all started at
He committed his first crime and jail is where he sat
He was labeled a felon for that anhydrous tank
Lawyers cost money so I was off to the bank
Five years of probation and criminal to his name
I thought it was over but this was the beginning of the game
A couple of years later on vacation at the beach
I called and called but my son I could not reach
A car full of ingredients and a gun under the seat
Blue lights and handcuffs and a charge he could not beat
In big trouble he was as they threw him in the cell
Five more felonies and there wont be any bail
Federal time and lots of years, they wanted the judge to say
A roller coaster from hell is what we rode day after day
Back to the bank for my heart and soul I would sell
He made a mistake but he did not belong in that jail
Waiting and not knowing what the outcome would be
Good news or bad we just had to wait and see
Each others pain we could feel and tears we could see
For that glass in between us no touching there would be
After seven long months the judge had the final say
Ten years of probation with no troubles along the way
The nightmare was over the experience from hell
What lesson did this teach him only time would tell
My son is my everything that God gave to me
And whatever happens in his life is what God meant to be
From felony #1 to #5 the reasons are all the same
There is a poison called meth that deserves all the blame
Two years of intense and probies on his head
They handcuffed him and took him away for positive the stick read
Back to square one where he spent seven months before
I don’t think my heart can take too much more
Probation violation the judge has the final say
Stuck in my heart and soul are the words he spoke that day
His words set in stone as he stared into Daniels face
This is your last trip down the well and with that I rest my case
You can bank on that warning solid and pure
Any more trouble and my son would be taken for sure
Now we visit Cadwell I pray this will be the last
I ask God to take his troubles and put them in his past
We Continue On The Ride
I think I will ride to Daniels I haven’t seen him yet today
Just to say I love you and make sure everything’s okay
As I topped the hill his driveway in my sights
My stomach felt sick why all the blue lights
My thoughts spinning out of control my heart racing fast
I saw my son in handcuffs the time before was supposed to be the last
The words of that judge were screaming in my ears
It was happening right before me the worst of my fears
A mother protecting her child I was filled with hate and rage
They were going to take my son away and put him back in that cage
There was nothing I could do or nothing I could say
Reality set in this nightmare wasn’t going away
From jails to detention centers he worked his way to the top
Lets hope and pray Dooly State Prison will be his last stop
Final Miles Of The Ride
Transferred from Dooly to Columbus at Rutledge State
A blessing in disguise this experience of Gods fate
He learned so much more than the schoolbook could teach
Believing in himself was the goal he had to reach
Goals were achieved and accomplishments were complete
He rose above the situation his spirit it did not beat
He wore his cap and gown graduated at the top
He handed me his diploma my tears could not stop
To the transitional center in Macon only 30 minutes away
The ride is almost over last stop of the day
Working at Red Lobster his biscuits are the best
Living in the free world will be his final test
A pass once a week at home by my side
He held his baby nephew wiped his tear when he cried
A visit from the parole officer explaining every detail
You’re choice between freedom and going back to that cell
Promise me convince me make my mind and heart believe
The ride is really over I am home mama and I am never gonna leave.
