What Is The Distance?

What Is The Distance?

WHAT IS THE DISTANCE?

What really is the distance
between your hand and mine?
When both of us can lift our eyes
and see the same star shine?

Our kisses are the raindrops
each falling from the sky;
reminding of the tender times
when we were side by side.

The whispers of "I Love You"
are carried in the breeze
to rustle in the branches
or whistle in the eaves.

The sunshine is that feeling
I have when you are near,
the glow you place within my heart
that keeps you close, my dear.

What really is the distance?
His Love is all around
giving comfort; we give thanks
as heads bow to the ground.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
