    Why do I cry

Sometimes when I'm alone I cry cause I am on my own now, the tears I cry fall down my cheeks but they are warm to wipe them away from my face. The flow with life but takes no form. I cry because my heart is torn. I find it difficult to carry on. If I had an ear to listen to me I would cry among my treasured friend, but who do you know that stops that long, to help another carry on. The world moves fast and it would rather pass by. Then to stop and see what makes one cry is so painful and sad and sometimes I cry and no one cares about why.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
