By definition a word is talk or discourse,

They can pierce like the point of an arrow that can bring indelible pain,

Like the crimson blood from a hemorrhaging wound,

    Leaving a lasting indelible stain

They can sooth the soul and ease the mind

Bringing comfort by their mere sound

Uplifting the souls of the weary and scorned

On a course where hopes and dreams abound

    They communicate ideologies and direction

On walls in subways being defaced,

With outcries from those who have become disconnected

    From the human race

A nice reflective piece. I enjoyed reading it. Good job.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
