Yearnings
If I told you of my dreams...
Would you laugh at the very
Audacity of longing
For a star not quite within reach;
Or with the joy of knowing
A heart that refuses to be daunted
By what might not be?
Would you take my hand and fly
With me, to faraway horizons?
Or would you counsel me
To remain earthbound
While my heart weeps
For that which might have been?
If I told you of my longings;
Of all the empty
Yearning places in my heart;
Would you seek to fill
Each lonely space,
To ease the ache of needing
Or refuse to take a part?
What if I asked you just to stay,
And take a chance
That each tomorrow could be
A bright and shining new day,
Would you dare to live that dream,
Or simply turn and walk away?
Would you laugh at the very
Audacity of longing
For a star not quite within reach;
Or with the joy of knowing
A heart that refuses to be daunted
By what might not be?
Would you take my hand and fly
With me, to faraway horizons?
Or would you counsel me
To remain earthbound
While my heart weeps
For that which might have been?
If I told you of my longings;
Of all the empty
Yearning places in my heart;
Would you seek to fill
Each lonely space,
To ease the ache of needing
Or refuse to take a part?
What if I asked you just to stay,
And take a chance
That each tomorrow could be
A bright and shining new day,
Would you dare to live that dream,
Or simply turn and walk away?
