Poem Commentary

This is dedicated to all the children who have lost a parent due to the Iraq War. The following poem is copywrighted and published by the International Library of Poetry. I hope all who read my poem I wrote in 2005 can get a glimpse of emotions our children go through.

~~{~@ A Daughter's Cry @~}~~

~A Daughters Cry~

As I reach my fathers resting place kneeling as I place a soft kiss...

Resting my head there as tears fall trickling at a slow pace...

Hugging the grass as if its my father...

Not wanting to let go...

Not ever...

Always searching for the men who killed my father...

As he defended his country obeying the Codes of Honor...

Wishing God could explain why he chose my dad to die...

When he did nothing wrong but fought against the ones who dishonor and lie...

Why I ask, did you take him from me?

Did I do something wrong for you to punish me?

He was my protector, my teacher, sometimes my brother...

He was all I had except for my mother...

How dare you take that right from me!!!

I never got to tell him how proud he made me.

I have been to Iraq three times and have seen and heard cries from both sides, alot of things we can't explain and seek answers yet we fight for the Country we believe in and human rights all over for those who cant defend for themselves against forces of evil. I cant say i know what its like to lose a family member so close to me, yet i was close to being lost from my boys...........nice write, sorry for your lost i pray your husband safe return

This poem makes me feel the your pain of losing a father. I rate this poem as excellent, but it makes me sad also. I too was a solderier for 20 years and retired to Florida. Sad I know that others took the bullet that I missed. As a civilian I try to make my task to defend peace, so other soldiers do not have to take that bullet and have sad daughters like you. *******Great Poem******

Thank you so much Steve. My husband was a USMC Marine Sniper for eight years. I know first hand how hard it is to be a mother and wife. The impact it does for any military child is difficult to endure as your trying to support a husband yet being the mother with that fear of having to tell the child daddy or mommy will not be here with us anymore.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
