    A Little Dr. Seuss

    I am a little shy,
    A little shy says I,
    This I won’t deny,
As she looks me in the eye,

My hands they shake a bit,
I try and try, they will not quit,
Even if I throw a fit,
My knees are weak, so I must sit,

Can’t seem to catch my breath,
She simply scares me to death,
    “What’s that? I’m going deaf?”,
Oh my life is such a mess,

    Every time she comes around,
My jaw drops down to the ground,
I cannot hear I cannot see,
This is what she does to me,

I cannot stop this endless rhyme,
I cannot stop it any time,
The beat goes on inside my mind,
I think about her all the time,

I wish that it would sometimes stop,
The way my stomach fills with knots,
    Funny this feeling’s not,
I think the love bug’s what I’ve got,

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
