    Poem Commentary

    I wrote this poem around 2003, just after I graduated from high school.

    A True Friend

    When times get hard
    And you wish all would end;
    The thing that matters most
    Is a friend.

    Someone who'll listen
    To your side plus more.
    The one who'll sugest
    The option you didn't think of before.

    A comforting presence
    Beyond a laugh or two,
    And will always be there
    To fill your shoe.

    Friends and aquantenances
    Sometimes blend,
    But only a true friend
    Will defend.

    Some people run
    When your trials come neigh;
    They leave you alone
    To hurt, be confused, and cry.

    Only a true friend,
    Whether they agree or not,
    Would risk everything
    To keep the friendship they've caught.

    When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
