Afternoon drive
Looking out on the world
from my driver side window
riding past, i'm quite relaxed
plush velvet seats of my chevrolet
sit like living room sofas
I listen as my tires hum a love song to the road
like reunited lovers on a mid-day rendezvous
a mound of leaves, piled neat
erupt beneath a pouncing child
a man and woman hand in hand
who watch me as I pass
So in sync the lovers seem
their seperate strides are made as one
a basket ball in mid-air archs
then rims out of the goal
three teens compete
they grasp and leap
scuffle, scramble
sweating, tired
each refusing to be beat
what competetive streaks
now looking through my rear view
as my rear view reflects scenes
of multicolored floating leaves
who dance upon the whirling breeze
i make while driving pass
to think while driving pass
and looking out into these lives
these lives who's owners I don't know
I Watch them making memories of the timeline of their lives
and for a few seconds in time upon that line
Our lives have intertwined.
