Poem Commentary

This poem was written for my beloved mother, on the fifty-fifth anniversary of my adoption, which was on December 19, 2012.

An Eternal Angel

You and I have been through so much
for so many years.
You wiped away fifty-five years' worth
of tears,
When God sent me to you,
I didn't dream we would be together for so long.
You always loved me,
no matter if I did something wrong.
When you are gone,
no one will ever be able to take your place.
No longer will I get out of bed,
and will get to see your beloved face.

You will never be able to guess how much you mean to me. .
how much you have always meant to me.
As I think back to when I was a little girl,
I remember all of the love you had for me. .you showed
me in many different ways.
You took an unwanted baby into your home and heart,
and raised her as your own daughter.
You loved her like you would your own daughter.

My dear mother:
Within my heart, you dwell.
My true feelings, I do tell.
Within my heart you will always be,
forever and always. .you will be loved by me.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
