Another Man's Shoes

Another Man’s Shoes

They were not torn.

The soles on his shoes were not worn.

They are very fashionable everyone was saying.

They were not new but used.

Another man’s shoes;

Was he a dancer?

Because my feet won't keep still.

Another man’s shoes,

Slightly tight,

But good leather does stretch,

He had great taste in shoes

What has happened to the man?

Why would he give-up a pair of shoes as nice as these;

Was it by choice or was it by force?

In my inner conscience, a questions lie,

Is he living or has he moved on?

Another man’s shoes;

Where have these shoes been?

If only they could talk

Do they have a mind of their own?

When one walks in another man’s shoes,

Questioning and judging will cease

He must have walked a proud path;

Now I possess another man’s shoes

Who will walk in mine?

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
