    Arizona Is

    I think that Arizona is
    Enwrapped in purple mountain haze
With flora silver, sage and brown
    And golden poppies dotted 'round
    Canyon's secrets lay deep inside
Bleached bones the desert claimed and dried

Dust devils rising to the sky
The ghosts of cowboys riding by
    Exotic birds in colors bold
Scarlet, orange, bright blue and gold
Coyote's howls that chill the soul
Scorpions, snakes in their deep holes

Rich in cultural tales of yore
    Proud, Native American lore
    Mines of opal, copper, silver
    Turquoise hidden in rock corners
    Jewels born under cloudless skies
    All this where Arizona lies

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
