Autism Fan
Autism Fan
Looking back I can clearly see
The signs that were there
But being an uneducated parent
I was so blindly unaware
The delayed speech, the hand flaps
& the covering of the ears
Placing shoes in a row
Potty training for years
Worried and confused
Off to the doctor we go
To ask her opinion
On why things are moving so slow
She says Autism
Is what she thinks it may be
So off to see specialists
To see if they agree
Several doctors and therapists
Evaluate my son
The awesome world of Autism
Has just begun
Many scary thoughts
Cross your mind
No reason, no cure
Answers nowhere to find
Parents blame themselves
And think “Why me?”
“Is it my fault?”
“How can this be?”
But then you realize
There should be no shame
It’s not anyone’s fault
No one is to blame
So educate yourself
Learn all that you can
Listen to others
And become an Autism Fan
