    Autumn

    Gathered leaves nostalgic smell,
    Amber crumbs in palms dwell.
    Wind kissed Cherry cheeks aglow,
    Fat clouds gray threaten snow.

    Tractor fumes fill the air.
    Aged corn rows stripped bare,
    Southbound flocks on parade.
    Laughing Children masquerade

    Smiling pumpkins twilight glow
    Squirrels busy with winter’s stow
    Watched leaves raining down,
    Backs against the cool ground.

    Clocks fall back an hour,
    Sunshine’s dwindling power.
    Swirling leave in the sky.
    Barron branches wave goodbye.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
