Back and Forth

Back and Forth

Hands clasped behind his back,
he walks past the window,
 eyes never leaving the pavement he steps on.

The cold doesn't seem to bother him;
his pace only slows with the wind.

Pushing on, he continues his step,
with a steady pace heading to the end of the street,
not stopping till reaching the corner.

standing there for only a moment,
he turns and heads back.

Walking past the window, he glances in,
giving a smile to the person he sees.

You smile back and give him a wave.
Tomorrow, he wont be walking alone.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
